Welcome back to all our Year 2 children – it’s been so lovely having you all back in school! Your teachers are:

Mrs Bhayat          Miss Patel      Mrs Harrris        Mrs Attan

For this half term in maths we will learn to:

  • Count in steps of 2, 3 and 5 from 0, and in tens from any number, forward and
  • backwards.
  • -Read and write numbers to at least 100 in numerals and in words.
  • - Recognise the place value of each digit in a two-digit number (tens, ones).
  • -Compare and order numbers from 0 up to 100; use [less than], [greater than] and = signs.
  • - Use place value and number facts to solve problems.
  • - add and subtract numbers using concrete objects, pictorial representations, and mentally, including:
  • a two-digit number and ones
  • a two-digit number and tens e.g. 87 – 30 = 57
  • - begin to recall and use addition and subtraction facts to 20, e.g. 19 – 7 = 12 and derive and use related facts up to 100
  • e.g. 30 = 90 – 60

We will use maths manipulatives to support us with our learning. Children will be asked to convince and show their mathematical understanding using a range of concrete apparatus, which they will then transfer into pictorial representations and finally show in an abstract method. We will learn to problem solve and use the manipulatives to show our working out.
